Savannah Philharmonic Picnic in the Park

2016 PICNIC IN THE PARK TO TAKE PLACE ‘UNDER THE STARS AND STRIPES’ IN FORSYTH PARK

August 24, 2016

SAVANNAH, GA – August 24, 2016 – The Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, along with the City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs, present the annual Picnic in the Park, a night of fantastic music and free family fun in historic Forsyth Park. The event, slated for 4-9:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, celebrates National Arts and Humanities Month by featuring spectacular repertoire performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra. Pre-concert performances will include students from Savannah Chatham Public Schools and other area schools.

This year’s theme, “Under the Stars and Stripes,” was chosen through a Facebook contest in which users were encouraged to submit their patriotic-oriented ideas. The competition winner, Wallace Blackstock, will be awarded six tickets to the family matinee of the Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops performance in December.

In the spirit of the event, attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic, as well as participate in the patriotic themed picnic table contest, which always results in fun, whimsical to elaborate gourmet smorgasbords, accented by inspiring décor that cleverly reflects the theme. The first-, second- and third-place picnic table contest winners will win $500, $250 and $100 Parker’s cards.

Event starting @ 4:00 PM with the Philharmonic taking the stage at 7:00 pm.
