Come celebrate Mardi Gras with the legendary Savannah Stompers Jazz Band. They’ve been entertaining Savannah for decades but this is their first time on the Tybee Post Theater stage – and it’s going to be a big time!
The Stompers embody the music of the “Golden Age of Jazz” from the early decades of the last century. You’ll hear, see and enjoy the recreation of historic jazz writers and performers, including Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbeck, W.C. Handy and more! This band replicates the original instrumentation of those classic ensembles with trumpet, trombone, and clarinet on the front line and piano, tuba, banjo and drums in the rhythm section.
And these personable gents will share humorous anecdotes about the writers and performers who made this music American’s greatest contribution to the world’s culture!
We’ll expect to see some of you doing the Charleston, Lindy, two-step, fox trot and tango in the aisles and in front of the stage. You won’t be able to help yourselves. Wear your beads and Mardi Gras bling and let the good times roll at this fabulous afternoon event!
