Ray & Etta: Father of Soul & Matriarch of Blues

  • Tybee Post Theater 10 Van Horne Ave Tybee Island, Ga 31328 (map)

If you enjoyed our "Frank & Ella" concert last year, you don't want to miss Laiken Love and Trae Gurley's "Ray & Etta: Father of Soul & Matriarch of Blues." This show is going to be packed with some of the best blues & soul these artists have to offer!

Ray Charles, born Charles Ray Robinson in Albany, Ga., was blind since the age of 7. He pioneered the soul music genre during the 1950s by combining blues, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles into the music he recorded for Atlantic Records! Despite many setbacks in life Ray went to become the beloved "Father of Soul!"! His famous hits include "Shake Ya Tail Feather," "Unchain My Heart," "Come Rain or Come Shine" and "Georgia On My Mind."

Etta, born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles, was a gospel prodigy and discovered at age 16 by musician Johnny Otis. Her powerful, deep, earthy voice bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and rock and roll. She won six Grammy Awards and 17 Blues Music Awards. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Some of her hits including “At Last,” Tell Mama,” and “Something’s Got a Hold on Me.”

Trae Gurley's deep southern soul and Laiken Love's sweet and sassy vocals will make this night unforgettable! They will be backed once again by the Eric Jones Trio!
