This month’s Tybee City Limits, the Best in Live Local Music, has an outstanding lineup of talented musicians and songwriters, including American Hologram, Jon Lee and the Hextones and John Russell.
Opening the show is singer/songwriter John Russell. Born in Motown, and new on the scene in Savannah, John Russell is a rising talent who’s on his way to big things! Just two years into his music career John has already stepped on to big platforms opening for Grammy-Award-winning Singer John Legend at 2015’s SXSW music festival. John brings a fun mix of soul, pop, folk, and blues, that’s guaranteed to make you groove.
Jon Lee and the Hextones was formed in the summer of 2015 by veteran Savannah musicians Jon Lee Murphy, Jon Willis, Brian Haynes, and Shane Baldwin. Their sound is vey much centered around the soulful vocal stylings of singer Jon Lee Murphy, who credits Motown and Stax artists as well as The Beatles, Robin Trower, and his father Bill Murphy as influences. With an emphasis on groove and melody, they craft original soul and blues rock songs with an authentic southern vibe. They are looking forward to their debut EP release in 2016 as well as live shows throughout the Southeast.
Closing out the show is Savannah’s American Hologram, a gutsy and eclectic power house trio comprised of Eric Britt, Britt Scott and Craig Tanner. Although Americana goth pop and roots has surfaced as a description, songwriting is what defines their music. Interweaving acoustic guitars, three part harmonies, and interchanging lead singers make American Hologram a standout among Southeastern bands.
